Are taxonomies a tool to help companies access cheaper capital for decarbonisation?

Objectives:

  • Impact of the EU and Other Taxonomies in Redirecting Financial Flows. We will analyse how taxonomies, including the EU’s, have influenced financial flows towards sustainable investment, focusing on what the data reveals.
  • Key Lessons Learned: What Works and What Doesn’t. A reflection on the successes and challenges of implementing taxonomies to date, providing practical insights into their effectiveness.
  • Deconstructing the Different Uses and Users of Taxonomies. Explore the various ways taxonomies are applied across sectors and by different stakeholders, highlighting the range of interpretations and applications.
  • Global Convergence or Regional Approaches? Analyse whether a “one-size-fits-all” taxonomy is feasible or if regional adaptations are necessary. We will examine the potential for convergence in aligning financial flows with climate goals, as well as the risks of not meeting the 1.5ºC Paris targets.
  • Debate on the Global Taxonomy Initiative for COP29. The session will include a discussion on the global taxonomy initiative, which is set to be presented at COP29, assessing its potential to harmonise standards and drive climate action globally.

This event aims to foster a deeper understanding of the evolving role of taxonomies in sustainable finance and their potential for global harmonisation.
