The event will analyse the use of current macroeconomic indicators as a guide for economic policy and the case for (and experience in) the extension of said indicators to measure sustainability.
Objectives:
- Current measures of economic growth, most prominently GDP, fall short of capturing the aggregate value of environmental goods and services, including their non-use, existential and bequest values. This panel seeks to analyse alternative measures of growth as a guide for sustainable economic policy.
- The latest data from different countries will be presented and compared.
- Opportunities and barriers to the use of Genuine Savings/Adjusted Net Savings or other measures as economic policy tools will be discussed.
