This high-level dialogue will reflect on the main achievements as regards climate action since the adoption of the Paris Agreement on December 2015, the economic and social opportunities a just transition can bring, the challenges ahead and the key actions that are required to ensure the next round of NDCs are Paris-aligned, investment-ready and socially acceptable.
Objectives:
- Reflect on the Paris Agreement as a turning point in global cooperation.
- Share cases of success and challenges in transitioning away from a fossil-dependent economic system.
- Put forth ways to enhance social acceptance of increasingly stringent climate policies.
- Discuss just and inclusive transition governance experiences.
- Discern the key elements required to deliver 1.5ºC aligned NDCs ahead of COP30, including tripling renewable energies and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.
- Analyse how Spain is addressing its net-zero transition via its Integrated Energy and Climate Framework which includes the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law, the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan and the (soon to be updated) Just Transition Strategy, among others.
